Hotels in Brighton and East Sussex with special
offers and weekend breaks
The city of Brighton is more than just a seaside resort,
more than a city, with its close proximity to the capital ( being only 49 minutes
away from London its ideal for weekend breaks ) it attracts "the beautiful
people" from the city but keeps a laid-back atmosphere, influenced by its
coastal position. People who love the fashion, the style and the contemporary
feel of a city but who are trying to escape the hussle and bussle of city life
should definitely give Brighton a go. Dubbed ‘Soho by the Sea’ it
has been a flamboyant and extravagant destination ever since the Prince Regent
decided to make it his home away from home in 1823.
Nestling between the South Downs and the Channel on England's sunny south coast
Brighton is a rich mix of Regency heritage, specialist shopping, lively arts,
beachfront fun and year round events, not forgetting the exotic Royal Pavilion.
Perfect for weekend breaks at any time of the year Brighton is a compact city
with everything within walking distance. When it comes to intriguing neighborhoods
that are ripe for exploring, Brighton has them in droves.
The Old Lanes is steeped in history and stories of smugglers and ghosts. Almost
opposite the Palace Pier, The Lanes are probably one of the most well known
areas of Brighton. Tourists haunt them for the unusual clothes, books and antiques
juxtaposed with New Age therapy paraphernalia – scented candles, massage
oils, incense burners, whale-song CDs and the like. Particularly renowned for
its antique and jewellery shops, it’s a wonderful place to pick up an
heirloom or two. North Laine is Brighton’s Bohemian quarter with boutiques
selling everything from Sixties kitsch to Goth garments. Kemptown is a haven
of B&Bs, restaurants and the gay community. If you have any plans to hit
the clubs then you’ll definitely be pounding Kemptown’s pavements
at some point during your stay.
Don’t miss the
Royal
Pavilion, home of King George IV, and probably the most exotic, extravagant
royal palace in Europe. Stroll along the
Victorian
Pier and the beachfront, where stylish bars and cafés spill out onto
the curved paving, jostling for space with surfer shops, giant sculptures, buskers,
fresh fish and artists’ studios.
There are museums and galleries galore, special events throughout the year from
car rallies to carnivals, and England’s largest arts festival in May.
For nightlife, there’s theatre, music, dance and comedy, lively pubs and
bars and around 400 restaurants. And there’s a great choice of places
to stay for that weekend break – ritzy 5 star seafront hotels, jazzy places
with Moroccan style courtyards, minimalist townhouses and traditional B&Bs.
